PENN TRAIN'R (tennis ball packaging)
Being an avid tennis player since the age of six, I've always loved the sport but felt as though many of the designs in tennis have stayed stagnant. To optimize the tennis ball can, I decided to work on a "second life" that would allow the can to be used for multiple purposes. I wanted to create something new that would help the players and allow them to use the container in a way that would benefit them while training. This is when I came up with the idea for Penn Train'R (train ready). To make the design more efficient, I transformed the can into 3 individual pressurized capsules. The idea is that these capsules would serve multiple purposes once opened. When placed on the court, the pieces could serve as marker cones for running sprints and targets for practicing serves. The pieces of the capsule could also be flipped upside down and be used as ball holders in tournaments. This is so players wouldn't have to cary extra balls in theirs pockets. Keeping the balls in the cups, would also help prevent the ball from rolling around the court during an important match. Each package would come with three pressurized capsules in a specific color chosen to stand out based on the type of tennis court surface you would be playing on. This would allow the cones to be easily seen when target practicing and doing sprints.
